Traditional Forms

The presentation of the form must stay within the bounds of the competition ring (permission from the judges must be received beforehand to extend the ring boundaries). This event will not require you to adhere to only a certain set of forms for your rank. However, we do want to see forms that are a worthy representation of rank levels. Traditional forms will not include XMA style forms. The Traditional Forms event will be judged based on five criteria: 1. Intensity & Power 2. Consistency in Stances & Foot Positions 3. Focus & Flow of the Form 4. Physical Balance 5. Technique

Continuous Sparring

Continuous sparring will be light-contact and ran in the continous sparring format. There will be three judges at each ring. A center judge and two corner judges. This is NOT a full contact division. This is a best out of 3 round, continuous sparring matchup. Each round is 1 minute long. If a competitor wins the first two rounds then the match is over. The center referee does not score the fight, but controls the rules and fight flow inside the ring. A judge must score one fighter 10 and one fighter 9. A judge may NOT score a 9-9 round. Judges will consider to determine a round winner: Ring Generalship: the fighter who controls the action/pace and enforces their will and style Defense: How well the fighter is slipping, parrying, blocking, skillfully incorporating defensive maneuver. A fighter cannot punch more than four (4) times without either throwing a kick or disengaging from his/her opponent. A fighter can kick as many times consecutively as they choose. Competitors must bring their own sparring gear. (No gear will be available for purchase at the tourament.) Mandatory equipment includes: â–ª Chestguard (will be provided at the tournament) â–ª Head - with or without Face sheild â–ª Gloves â–ª Kick (foot) â–ª Shin guards (Optional) , Forearm guards (Optional)

Padded Escrima Sparring

Eskrima is a Filipino Martial Art. One padded stick will be provided at each ring for each competitor. The sticks are 26in in legnth. Competitor must only hold the padded stick with one hand. (Switching hands is allowed.) This is a best out of 3 round, sparring matchup. Each round is 1 minute long. Rounds go the duration of 1 min or until a competitor has scored 5 points. Once a competitor has scored 5 points the round is over. If a competitor wins the first two rounds then the match is over. There will be 30 second rests between rounds. Points are awarded to the contestant who scores with a controlled strike to the targeted areas of the opponent’s body as one would use a sword. One point is awarded for striking the legal targeted area of the body. Legal targeted areas are from the head, upper shoulders, torso and weapon arm, and to the non-weapon arm and from the knee down to the foot. Strikes from the waist to the knee, and to the back are not legal target areas. Competitors will be required to wear sparring helmets with a clear plastic full plastic cover. Or safety glasses may be worn along with the helmet. (Each ring will have saftey glasses available.)

Traditional Weapons Forms (Black Belts Only)

All participating in the Weapons forms will need to bring their own weapons. Any edged weapon will need to have a dull blade. Tape to cover a sharp edge will be allowed. These may be inspected by the Judges. All edge weapons will be required to be sheathed during the duration of the tournament except for the weapon Form. The presentation of the form must stay within the bounds of the competition ring (permission from the judges must be received beforehand to extend the ring boundaries).
